Convicted Felon Arrested on Multiple Charges in Miami County (updated with mug photo)

Mexico – This morning, a criminal investigation by Indiana State Police Trooper Steven Glass led to the arrest of Jamie Shultz, 39, Mexico, IN, on multiple criminal charges.

At approximately 3:37 a.m., Trooper Glass was on routine patrol near the town of Mexico. He came upon an occupied vehicle parked, with lights off, on the roadside. Further investigation revealed the vehicle’s occupant was a bond recovery agent (bounty hunter). The agent was conducting surveillance on a home at 2237 West Third Street, Mexico. The agent told Trooper Glass that he had observed Shultz enter the home. The agent said Shultz was wanted for a bond, out of Alabama, on a criminal charge for possession of a controlled substance.

Further investigation by Trooper Glass revealed that Shultz was wanted on a warrant from Alabama. Shultz was also wanted on two arrest warrants from Miami County, IN, for probation violations on charges of invasion of privacy and resisting law enforcement. Shultz also had an active probation violation warrant from Fulton County, IN.

The owner of the Third Street residence allowed officers from the Indiana State Police and the Miami County Sheriff’s Department to search the home for Shultz. A Miami County Sheriff’s Deputy found Shultz hiding under insulation in the home’s attic.

Trooper Glass applied for and was granted a Miami Circuit Court search warrant for the residence. During a subsequent search, officers allegedly found two rifles, two shotguns, four sets of brass knuckles, a crate of ammunition, a misdemeanor amount of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Shultz is a convicted violent felon who is not allowed to posses firearms.

Shultz was incarcerated in the Miami County Jail on the four arrest warrants. He also faces additional charges for felon in possession of firearms, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
