The National Weather Service has issued a heavy rain, high wind, and flash flood warning for the Bay Area from now until Monday.
Some safe driving tips are listed below:
- Slow down, roadways are especially slippery during the first few hours of rainfall. Vehicles take longer to stop when the roadways are wet.
- Driving slower will help reduce the chance of your vehicle hydroplaning, a common cause of collisions.
- Try to avoid driving through standing water, as you never know how deep the water might be.
- Remember if your using your windshield wipers, your vehicle headlights should also be turned on. Headlights and taillights can increase the visibility of your vehicle for other motorists.
- Check your tires, having proper tire inflation and tire tread can help to ensure you vehicle maintains traction on the roadway.
- Maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
- Allow more travel time in these conditions.
Slowing down and taking a few extra precautions could save a life.
