Two Arrested in Mail Theft Case
Sausalito Police Arrest Two for Mail Theft
On Thursday, 2-5-2015, at about 1:21 a.m., a Spring Street resident reported seeing a subject going through multiple mailboxes on the street. Prior to police arrival, the subject got into a light colored SUV that started to drive west on Spring Street towards Woodward Avenue.
Sausalito Police Officer Brandon Rodgers saw the SUV turn onto Woodward Avenue and began following it. When sufficient back-up units arrived, Officer Rodgers initiated a traffic stop in the area of 33 Buchanan Drive. Police contacted the driver, Marilyn Gibson, age 35, and passenger Jessie Sterrett, age 38, both residing in Marin City.
Inside the vehicle, police located a large amount of mail that did not belong to either occupant. Police also located information that led them to believe that the occupants were stealing mail for the purposes of identity theft. Located inside Gibson’s purse was an unloaded revolver.
The two subjects were booked into the Marin County Jail on the following charges:

Mail Tampering
Petty Theft
Conspiracy to Commit a Crime.
Possess Stolen Property.
Conceal Firearm in Vehicle.
Identity Theft.
Bail set at $10,000
Sterrett:
Mail Tampering
Petty Theft
Conspiracy to Commit a Crime.
Possess Stolen Property.
Bail set at $10,000
The case is under investigation pending contact with the owners of the recovered mail.
