Local Resident Ray Otter Selected To Command Versailles Post
Versailles – Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter has selected Versailles resident Ray Otter, a 30-year veteran of the Department, as Commander of the Versailles Post.
On January 26, 2015, First Sergeant Ray Otter received word that he had been promoted to Lieutenant, commander of the Versailles Post which encompasses ten counties in Southeastern Indiana.
Otter, a life-long resident of the Versailles area, attended the 42nd Indiana State Police Recruit Academy and was assigned to the Versailles Post after graduating. He has served as a Trooper, Corporal and First Sergeant during his thirty years with the Indiana State Police before being named Lieutenant, all at the Versailles Post. Otter has served as a member of the TIP platoon with the state police and graduated from the Southern Police Institute in 1997. He also served our Country’s military from 1976-1982 as a soldier in the Army where he graduated from Military Police School.
Lt. Otter graduated from Switzerland County High School in 1977 and married his wife of 37 years during the same year. They have three children, one of which is also an Indiana State Police trooper and two grandchildren. Otter has also served as an elder at Kent Christian Church in Kent, Indiana.
Lt. Otter says his most memorable moment as a member of the state police is “pinning a badge on the uniform of his son, Raymond Otter Jr., at his graduation from ISP Recruit Academy in 2012!”
