The city of Brentwood experienced a significant increase in theft of catalytic converters from Toyota and Dodge trucks during the past few weeks. It appears the thieves target catalytic converters that are not welded in to the exhaust system on vehicles with enough ground clearance to easily crawl under. All reported thefts occurred on the south side of the city during the early morning hours.

Please remember to activate your vehicle alarms and park inside your garage if possible.

You may consider consulting a mechanic or muffler shop to see if your catalytic converter is welded in to your vehicles exhaust system. Catalytic converters that are welded in are much more difficult to remove. The removal requires tools that make more noise and take more time. Catalytic converters that are bolted/clamped in can be removed in less than two minutes with minimal noise.
