Advisory

Steuben update

Steuben County Commissioners in cooperation with the Sheriff's Office, County Highway and Emergency Management have declared Steuben County to remain at an Orange WATCH status until 1:00 P.M. today (2/2/15). Steuben County will at 1:00 P.M. revert back to a yellow travel advisory. It is expected to remain at the yellow travel advisory for a few days. Recent forecasts indicate a potential for more snow mid-week and cold temperatures. Wind blowing will certainly cause roads to drift.

ORANGE WATCH Means that conditions are threatening to the safety of the public. During a "watch" local travel advisory, only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended, and emergency action plans should be implemented by businesses, schools, government agencies, and other organizations.

YELLOW ADVISORY is the lowest level of local travel advisory, and means that routine travel or activities may be restricted in areas because of a hazardous situation, and individuals should use caution or avoid those areas.

As always during the winter months, use your headlights, slow down, give yourself plenty of travel time, give yourself plenty of distance between vehicles and when approaching intersections and stay alert.

Please remember that the local advisory levels in the counties are travel advisories, which may have different meanings than the National Weather Service (NWS) notices, watches, and warnings that they issue. Please be aware of the differences.
