Ojai News Story - Explosive Device Arrest

Nature of Incident: Explosive Device Arrest
Report Number: 15-2072
Location: N. La Luna Avenue, Meiners Oaks Ca.
Date & Time: 1-27-15 @ 7:30 pm
Unit(s) Responsible: Ojai Police Department
(S)uspects, City of Residence Age
Travis Ross Ojai 24

Narrative:
On 1-27-15 at approximately 7:30 p.m., deputies from the Ojai station along with Ventura County Fire Department personnel responded to the area of N. La Luna Avenue and Fairview Road. Sheriff’s dispatch had received numerous calls of loud explosions in the area.

Patrol deputies at the scene developed information that the explosions were possibly coming from a specific address on N. La Luna. Patrol deputies were unable to locate the person who was responsible for the explosions or any evidence to confirm the explosions. Ojai station detectives took over the investigation and identified Travis Ross as the suspect in this case. Their investigation revealed that Ross has been building and detonating small bombs by filling plastic bags with a mixture of oxygen and propane. Once the bags were filled and sealed, a lighter or match was used to light a slow burning fuse.

This past summer there were several similar incidents reported to the Ojai Police Department that went unsolved. At this time, it is unknown if Ross was involved with those explosions. On January 30, 2015, Ross was arrested and booked into the Main Jail for making and detonating an explosive device. Ross’ bail has been set at $100,000.00.
