Date of Release: January 30, 2015
At 1148 hours today, the West Covina Police Department received a phone call of a bomb threat targeting the South Hills High School campus located at 645 S Barranca Avenue, West Covina. After the campus had also received an email with the same threat, the school went into a lock down status. As a precaution, Mesa Elementary School located just north of the high school also activated the same lock down status. Streets surrounding the campus were blocked to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Both schools then began an evacuation of all campus personnel. The students were directed to walk to Barranca Elementary School, 727 S Barranca Avenue, Covina which was selected as a centralized location for parents to pick them up.
After the students were evacuated, West Covina Police and the LASO Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad began a search of the South Hills High Campus. At 1555 hours, the search was completed with no devices located. The roads and both campuses were then reopened.
No one was injured during this incident.
