APD arrest Amarillo man on numerous charges after early morning incident in north Amarillo.

On Wednesday January 28th at 4:13am, APD officers attempted to stop a car after observing a traffic violation. The driver quickly sped away and officers pursued. Within just seconds of the officers pursuing the vehicle, the driver lost control and wrecks in a yard in the 1100 block of N Mirror. The driver then hopped out of the vehicle and took off running on foot. Officers chased the suspect who climbed a fence at a nearby business in an attempt to elude officers. As the foot chased continued, officers finally caught up to the subject on the roof of a detached garage of a residence in the 1100 block of N Houston. The subject was finally taken into custody and secured in a patrol car. While officers were checking the area where the suspect had ran, they located a semi automatic pistol that the suspect dropped. It was later determined that the weapon was reported stolen in August of 2014. The suspect is identified as Santwone Deshuan Smith B/M 29. Smith was booked into the Potter County Correction Center on the following charges, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by Felon; Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 less than 1 gram; Evading Arrest/Detention in Motor Vehicle and Evading Arrest/Detention on foot. The incident remains under investigation and additional charges are possible.
