Amarillo Crime Stoppers- Governor's office proclaims January 2015 as Crime Stoppers month

Proclamation:
Crime is a scourge on our society, threatening our communities and citizens. As Texans, we must do everything in our power to combat crime and make our communities safer, particularly as our population continues to grow by leaps and bounds.

Since 1976, Crime Stoppers programs have empowered citizens across our state to take a stand against crime. These programs bring together citizens, law enforcement agencies and the media to solve crimes and apprehend criminals.

Crime Stoppers' method of receiving anonymous tips and offering rewards has proven effective. Since Texas Crime Stoppers' inception in 1981, 1.4 million tips have resulted in nearly 200,000 suspects arrested and more than $1.4 billion recovered in property and narcotics.

In addition to keeping communities safe, many Crime Stoppers organizations have campus programs to combat crime in schools.ln 2014,more than 150 weapons and $300,000 in illegal drugs were removed from Texas schools.

Every year, the month of January is dedicated to raising awareness of Crime Stoppers' successes and inspiring more Texans to get involved.

At this time, I encourage all Texans to join in this effort and work to make Texas a safer and even better place to live, work and raise a family.

Therefore, I, Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, do hereby proclaim January 2015 to be Crime Stoppers Month.

As a result of this declaration, Amarillo Crime Stoppers is hosting the 3rd Annual “Back the Badge” night for first responders on Saturday 31st at the Amarillo Civic Center. Police, Fire, Emergency Medical Services as well as support organizations will be present. Numerous emergency vehicles and honor guards will be on site for this special event. Proceeds during the event will go to Pampa Police Sgt Houston Gass who was recently shot in the line of duty.
