This afternoon, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to the first block of Fox Lane, in Foley, for a domestic disturbance. Deputies learned 41-year old, Mary Elizabeth Britt, of Foley, arrived at the home to return property she had previously borrowed. While standing outside near the rear door, Britt displayed a 9mm Ruger semi-automatic handgun and attempted to fire it at the 67-year male homeowner from close range.
For unknown reasons, the firearm failed to discharge twice. The homeowner attempted to remove the gun from Britt when it discharged, shooting a round into the victim’s home. Britt dropped the handgun and fled in a 2005 white Dodge Stratus two-door passenger vehicle with Missouri license plate AG0-TY1. It is believed Britt is suicidal based on the victim’s statement.
No one was hurt in the altercation. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is currently working with other law enforcement agencies in the attempt to apprehend her.
Mary Britt is currently wanted by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and has a history of depression and may have access to other weapons.
