Advisory

Visit Denvillepolice.org for info on garbage pick up, local ordinances and emergency info all relating to the snow storm.

The weather forecast calls for snow to continue today and then become heavy around the afternoon rush hour. The heaviest snow should fall overnight and then taper off Tuesday by noon time. Light snow may continue to fall into the evening. The system has not yet formed off the coast so the forecast may continue to change and this may change the overall snow totals. Right now, anywhere between 10 and 25 inches of snow has been predicted. Wind is expected to become increasingly stronger beginning this evening and my gust to 40 M.P.H in our area.
Garbage pick-up for Tuesday is cancelled. The Tuesday route will be picked up instead on Friday. We apologize for any inconvenience.
In order to allow for the safety of all residents, motorists and public safety personnel please be reminded of the following snow emergency ordinances (see below) and issues. It is unlawful to park your vehicle on the roadway while it is snow covered. Please keep your vehicle off the roads until ALL snow has been removed and the roadway is clear. It is unlawful to deposit or plow snow onto the roadway. When plowing, shoveling and snow blowing, keep all of the snow on your property and do not place it in the street, especially after snow removal has been completed. All sidewalks must be cleared of snow 12 hours after the storm has ended. Please clear sidewalks before the snow becomes frozen, icy and difficult to remove. This makes our pedestrians and school children safe when walking and waiting for buses. If you live near a fire hydrant, take the time to shovel it out and make a path towards it in the event of a fire. When it is safe to drive your vehicle, all snow and ice must be removed from your vehicle prior to driving on the roadways.
The Denville Department of Public works will be working around the clock to clear snow from the roadways and parking lots. Staying off the roadways and keeping your parked vehicles out of the way will allow DPW to work faster and clear away the snow more effectively.
In the event of an emergency, call 9-1-1. For all other snow related questions, you may call Denville Public Works at 973-625-8334 or the Denville Police Department at 973-627-4900, ext. 9.
For power outages, you can call JCP&L directly at 1-888-544-4877 ( 1-888-LIGHTSS).
3-4.3 Depositing Snow on Public Streets Prohibited.
No person, firm, corporation, owner, tenant or occupant of any premises abutting on any street shall shovel, throw, place or deposit any snow or ice into or upon any sidewalk or street in the township. It is the intent and purpose of this provision to prohibit all persons from shoveling, throwing, casting, placing, plowing or depositing snow and ice, which accumulates on private property, upon sidewalks or streets of the township.

7-3.8 Temporary Parking Prohibition for Snow Plowing and Removal.
a. Removal. Whenever snow has fallen and the accumulation is such that it covers the streets or highways, an emergency shall exist and no vehicle shall be parked on any portion of a public road, street or highway.
The above parking prohibitions shall remain in effect after the snow has ceased until the streets and roads have been plowed sufficiently and to the extent that parking will not interfere with the normal flow of traffic.
b. Any unoccupied vehicle parked or standing in violation of this section shall be deemed a nuisance and a menace to the safe and proper regulation of traffic and any police officer may provide for the removal of such vehicle. The owner shall pay the reasonable costs of the removal and storage which may result from such removal before regaining possession of the vehicle.
c. Appropriate signs shall be erected and maintained at all street, road or highway entrances for motor vehicles into the township in accordance with N.J.S.A. 39:4-198.
