Rancho Cucamonga - Bicycle Safety Enforcement conducted in school zones
DATE/TIME: January 22, 2015
INCIDENT: Bicycle Safety Enforcement
LOCATION: Eleven Schools in the Rancho Cucamonga Area
SUMMARY:
The Rancho Cucamonga Police Department’s Traffic Division continually receives complaints regarding bicycle, pedestrian, and student safety in the school zones. On January 22, 2015, the deputies in the Traffic Division started a campaign to reduce injury related bike collisions in school zones. The deputies chose eleven schools within the city limits to start the campaign. Traffic deputies issued 28 warning citations to student bicyclists commuting to and from school. With each warning citation issued, the student was educated about our continuing Bicycle Safety Enforcement efforts. The students were told, in the future, real citations would be issued.
In addition to the traffic enforcement program, deputies attend local school rallies and assemblies to provide information to the students about bicycle safety. Today, is the first step in the campaign to raise the awareness of bicycle safety.
