Reckless Endangerment/Assault Arrest

(Etowah County, Alabama) A Glencoe woman has been arrested and charged in connection to reckless endangerment against a detention deputy that happened inside the Etowah County Detention Center.

“Leah Nichole Bragg, 24, of Glencoe, is charged with one count of third degree assault, one count of third degree promoting prison contraband and one count of reckless endangerment. All are misdemeanors,” Sheriff Todd Entrekin said.

During the process of being booked into the detention center and searched by a female detention deputy, Bragg was repeatedly asked if she had anything in her clothing or attached to her that might harm the deputy. She consistently told the booking deputy that she did not. As the deputy searched Bragg’s clothing, she was stuck in the hand by a needle that was in waist band of the suspect’s pants. The incident occurred on January 16.

“Many obvious dangers exist everyday for deputies,” Sheriff Entrekin said. “But, the dangers that many may not think of can put deputies’ health in jeopardy when faced with the threats of dirty needles and other drug paraphernalia.”

Bragg was booked into and later released from the Etowah County Detention Center on $2,500 bond.
