January 24th aggravated assault case is now a homicide.

***UPDATED RELEASE***

The assault victim died and the case is now classified as a homicide.  Justice of the Peace Richard Herman ordered an autopsy to be performed in Lubbock on Tuesday morning.  The victim is Joanna Elizabeth Salinas Olivas, age 23. The Special Crimes Unit asks for anyone with information about this case to call 378-9468.

***ORIGINAL RELEASE***

On January 24, 2015, at approximately 1:05 AM, officers of the Amarillo Police Department were dispatched to the 2600 block of NW 15th on a domestic disturbance.  Officers were advised there was a female victim of an assault and that the suspect fled the scene.  The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.  The suspect was later taken into custody and booked in the Potter County Correction Center on a charge of aggravated assault against a family member.  The suspect was identified as Luis Alberto Olivas, age 24.
