**2nd Update** El Camino Community College PD Officer Involved Shooting in Torrance #LASD Homicide Assisting

***2nd UPDATE***

Detectives have learned that the suspect is 18 year old Peyton Dingman.  He was a student at El Camino Community College last summer, although he is not currently enrolled.  Once on the college grounds, the suspect dialed 9-1-1 from his cellphone, was routed through Hawthorne Police Department, and sent to El Camino Police Department.  He identified himself to the police dispatcher, said he had a gun, and a female hostage.  He told the dispatcher he was in the F-8 portion of the parking structure.

El Camino Police officers responded to the location and contacted the suspect.  He produced what appeared to be a gun and pointed it at the officers.  Two officers fired their duty weapons striking the suspect in the upper torso.

The suspect is currently in critical condition, but is expected to survive his wounds.

The suspect’s weapon, which was recovered at the scene, was an Airsoft pellet gun.  It was completely wrapped in black electrical tape, to disguise the fact it was a pellet gun, making it appear to be a real firearm.

A suicide note written by the suspect was found later at his home in by Los Angeles County Sheriff homicide detectives.

The suspect is currently under arrest, and a criminal filing with the District Attorney’s office is pending.

The investigation is on-going.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.  If you prefer to provide information anonymously, you may call "Crime Stoppers" by dialing (800) 222-TIPS (8477), or texting the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or by using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org.
