Huntsville, Alabama (January 23, 2015) Huntsville Police, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigations, Birmingham Police and AT&T Asset Protection have partnered over the last few months in investigating large copper thefts that had been occurring in the north Alabama region. Clifford Lee Garrison of Walker County has been charged and arrested in these thefts.

Inv. Kevin Matthews of the Huntsville Police Department was working several burglaries of AT&T substations across the city where tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of copper had been stolen.
He has been working with the ABI and some local agencies around Birmingham that experienced the same type break-ins. Birmingham Police identified an offender from surveillance video, a contractor who had key pad access to these substations. The total value of stolen copper wiring plus damage caused statewide could be in excess of one million dollars.

Garrison was an employee for a contracting company that serviced the AT & T switching facilities. He will be charged in Huntsville for Burglary 3rd Degree and two counts of Theft of Property 1st Degree. Garrison is currently in the Jefferson County Jail on two felony theft charges.
