INCIDENT: Narcotics Arrest

LOCATION: 1500 Block of North I Street, San Bernardino

SUSPECT(S): #1 - Antonio Cabada, 23, San Bernardino #2 - Gabriel Banuelos, 32, San Bernardino



SUMMARY:
On Monday, January 12, 2015, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Narcotics Investigators initiated surveillance in the 1500 Block of North I Street in the City of San Bernardino. During the surveillance, narcotic related activity was seen and two vehicles left soon after. One of the vehicles, a light brown Taurus, was followed away and a traffic stop was attempted a short time later. The Taurus sped away and a pursuit ensued. The Taurus attempted to elude investigators by driving at unsafe speeds and making several abrupt turns, which endangered public safety. A Sheriff's air unit was able to keep the suspect vehicle in sight, while investigators continued the pursuit.

When investigators caught up to the Taurus, the suspects intentionally drove the Taurus into a Sheriff vehicle while attempting to get away. A short time later, investigators were able to utilize the Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) which caused the suspect vehicle to lose traction and spin out near Foothill Boulevard and Acacia Avenue in the City of Rialto. Other investigators were able to block in the Taurus ending the pursuit. The suspects were taken into custody without further incident.

During a search of the Taurus, approximately 35 pounds of suspected methamphetamine was located.
Antonio Cabada and Gabriel Banuelos, both of San Bernardino were booked into West Valley Detention Center for transportation of narcotics and assault on a peace officer.
