Thefts of tailgates on the rise

The Torrance Police Department has seen a sharp increase in thefts of tailgates from pickup trucks.  Most of the thefts have occurred from Toyota, Dodge, and Chevy products; however, all tailgates are at risk.   

 

There are simple locks that can be purchased from auto part stores that can help deter the thief.  Placing these locks on the tailgate will require thieves to bring tools and this may deter them from taking the tailgate.  Consumers can also buy an aftermarket handle with a lock, or a lock that secures over the side pin to prevent the tailgate removal.  These products can range from $20-$200.
