Homicide Investigation Update

In the ongoing investigation of the murder of James Roberson, 25, of Jackson, police investigators have an updated description of the homicide suspect’s car. The car is a 2007 white, four-door, Nissan Maxima with a sunroof and tinted windows.

Police investigators have spoken with the car’s registered owner and are working toward developing a person of interest.

The car has not been located by police, and officers are still searching for it. It may presently have a temporary tag or a regular license plate.

Around 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, police were called about a shooting. When officers arrived, they discovered Roberson’s body lying on the ground beside a parked car at 12 Woodberry Trail.

Based on the preliminary investigation, police have determined that Roberson was picking up a friend at 12 Woodberry Trail. As Roberson and the friend were sitting in a car, the suspect pulled onto Woodberry Trail, parked and got out of a car. The suspect then approached Roberson’s car and fired multiple times, striking the car. Roberson’s passenger was able to get out of the car, uninjured. As Roberson was attempting to get out, he was shot by the suspect.

The suspect, who acted alone, was described as a slender black male dressed in dark clothing and wearing a mask.

The Jackson Police Department has a surveillance camera on Old Hickory Boulevard that captured the suspect’s vehicle as it traveled east on Old Hickory immediately before and after the shooting.

Police have received multiple tips on this shooting thus far that have aided in the investigation. We urge anyone with information to continue to call the Jackson Police Department at 731-425-8400, Crime Stoppers at 731-424-8477 (TIPS) or submit an anonymous tip online at jmcrimestoppers.org.
