APD arrest two after Tuesday morning stolen vehicle from north Amarillo.

On Tuesday January 20th at 7:45am, APD officers were sent to the 500 block of Jason on a reported stolen vehicle that had just occurred. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the owner of the vehicle who reported that someone had stolen their light blue 2005 Dodge Caravan during the night. Officers made a report and broadcast the description to other field officers.

At approximately 10:30am the PACE Unit K-9 officer was on regular patrol when he observed a Dodge van matching the description near 24th and S Arthur. As the officer went passed the vehicle he could see there were two individuals in the van. The van pulled onto S Arthur and went south on Arthur. The K-9 officer made a u-turn and proceeded after the van. The van made a couple of quick turns in the residential neighborhood and was attempting to elude the officer. The officer lost sight many times but always managed to re-locate the suspect vehicle. At one point the officer was 5 blocks behind the van, when the van lost control and spun out in an intersection. The male driver and female passenger then got out of the van and took off running. Additional officers were sent to the area to assist. As officers set up a perimeter, they observed two subjects walking out between two houses in the block. The subjects again tried to run away on foot and officers pursued. The female was taken into custody and later identified as Nasha Gipson W/F 32. Gipson was arrested for Evading Arrest. The male driver ran between several houses and even attempted to gain entry into one unoccupied house but was unsuccessful. Officers deployed a taser, however only one taser struck the suspect and was ineffective. The officer and the K-9 partner finally were able to catch up to the suspect and he was taken into custody. The driver is identified as Brian Thomas Hernandez H/M 32. Hernandez was arrested and booked into the Potter County Jail on charges of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle; Evading Arrest/Detention in Motor Vehicle; Evading Arrest/Detention on foot; Fraudulent Use/Possession of Identifying Information; Resisting Arrest; and one Municipal Court warrant.
