Pedestrian Safety Operation
During morning commute hours on Tuesday January 20th, 2015, Officers from the Newark Police Department conducted a Pedestrian Safety Operation. The Pedestrian Safety Operation was an effort focused on pedestrian safety due to several recent pedestrian related vehicle collisions. During this operation, non-uniformed members of the Newark Police Department crossed streets in marked pedestrian crosswalks while Officers monitored drivers’ compliance. The Pedestrian Safety Operation resulted in the issuance of 52 citations, 40 warnings, one driving under the influence (DUI) arrest, and a warrant arrest
Officers who participated in the Pedestrian Safety Operation used this opportunity to speak with motorists, along with educating drivers regarding pedestrian right-of-ways and other associated traffic laws.
