On Wednesday, January 21, 2015, between the hours of 8:15 AM and 10:00 AM, an emergency "armed intruder" exercise will be conducted at Palm Springs High School, 2401 East Baristo Road. The emergency exercise will involve Palm Springs Police and Fire Department personnel working in coordination with Palm Springs High School and Palm Springs Unified School District personnel. The school lockdown drill will consist of a staged armed intruder event on campus to assist school and emergency personnel in preparing for this type of event. The event will focus on emergency response plans, capabilities, communication and procedures pertaining to school safety during a similar event. The goal of this exercise is to provide realistic training for school and emergency personnel that will increase operational effectiveness and ensure the safest outcome for school students and staff during a real event. Several emergency vehicles and personnel will be at the location during this exercise. As a result of the increased presence of emergency personnel, citizens and local businesses should be aware that this is a planned exercise and not an actual emergency. A designated media area will be set up in the parking lot area at the northwest corner of Farrell Drive and Baristo Road.
