East Division Officers Capture and Arrest Armed and Dangerous Felon
On Wednesday, January 14, 2015, Long Beach Police Officers captured a dangerous felon who was armed with a loaded handgun, after terrorizing and pointing the gun at an innocent bystander.
At approximately 1:30 P.M, officers responded to reports of a man pointing a gun at people in the 2100 block of east 17th Street. East Division Officers who were flooding the area working special enforcement efforts due to recent gun violence incidents located the suspect at Temple Avenue and 17th Street. Officers attempted to detain the suspect who fled from them on foot leading officers in a foot pursuit.
Officers caught the suspect at Molino Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway where he continued to resist arrest and physically fight with officers who were taking him into custody. Pickens was successfully taken into custody, causing minor injuries to the officers involved.
A loaded gun and narcotics were recovered. Further investigation revealed Pickens is a registered sex offender and was currently in violation of his parole. This is a very dangerous and violent individual who is no longer roaming our streets.
The suspect was identified as 32-year-old Demetruis Pickens of Long Beach. Pickens was arrested on charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Possession of Narcotics, Ex-Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Parole Violation. Pickens is currently being held at the Long Beach Jail with no bail.
