Two Injured in I-69 Crash
Delaware County – A single car crash this morning during rush hour sent a man and woman from northern Indiana to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Troopers received the call around 7:10 a.m. this morning of a vehicle rolled over with its occupants entrapped on I-69 south bound around the 240 mile marker.
Pendleton District Sergeant Jeff Zeiger, along with Trooper Eric Perkins, found the four door Chevrolet rolled over onto the driver’s door into the cable barrier in the area of the 239 mile marker. The driver, Luiz Araiza, age 71 of Butler, IN., was taken to IU Health’s Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie for a complaint of shoulder pain.
His passenger, Joann E. Puebla, age 70 of Ashley, IN., was also transported for a complaint of pain in her left knee. It is unclear what caused their vehicle to drive off the left side of the road into the cable barrier. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Trooper Perkins, who investigated the crash, said that “seatbelts were in use at the time of the collision and were effective in preventing and reducing the risk of injuries in the crash.” Statistics show that seatbelts reduce the risk of injury in a crash by 50%.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by Salem Twp. Fire, Salem Twp. EMS, Delaware County EMS, Muncie Fire Department, Yorktown Fire Department and the Gaston Fire Department.
