OSBI Helps Investigate Shooting of Sentinel Police Chief

The Washita County Sheriff’s Department requested OSBI investigative assistance this morning involving the shooting of a law enforcement officer that took place at approximately 6 o’clock this morning in Sentinel. Sentinel Police Chief Louis Ross was shot several times in the chest as he and two Washita County deputies entered the home of a bomb threat suspect. Ross was wearing a bullet proof vest at the time of the shooting. A Washita County deputy loaned that vest to the chief just before they entered the suspect’s home. That vest saved Ross’ life. Ross was hit in the arm by gun fire. He is expected to survive that wound.
The bomb threat suspect called 911 at approximately 4 o’clock this morning reporting he had placed a bomb at the school. The Washita County Sheriff’s Office called the OHP Bomb Squad to check for an explosive device at the school while deputies and the Sentinel police chief located the caller at his home in the 200 block S. 4th. After the suspect shot numerous rounds, he surrendered to officers.
That man and his wife, who was inside the house at the time, are in custody. Names will be released once they have been booked into the Washita County jail.
