Cops 4 Causes To Host "5K Walk/Run For Cody" Sat Jan 31, 2015 @ 8:30 A.M. Bonelli Park, San Dimas

Cops 4 Causes to host “5K Walk/Run for Cody” to help 6 year-old kidney recipient raise $10,000 to pay for treatments to save his kidney from failing

(Los Angeles –January 11, 2015)   Cops 4 Causes announces that it will host a 5K Walk/Run for the son of a LA County Sheriff’s Deputy on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Frank G. Bonelli Park in San Dimas.  Deputy David Misch’s son Cody, who is now 6 years-old, was the recipient of a kidney transplant at age 2. His body is currently rejecting the kidney. Cops 4 Causes is trying to raise $10,000 to pay for treatments not covered by insurance to keep his kidney from failing.

David Misch stated, “In February 2014 we found out his [Cody’s] anti-bodies in his body started rejecting his new kidney. He took an 8 hour infusion to stop this process. In September of 2014 we found out that the infusion didn’t work and that his kidney is now slowly rejecting and it’s just a matter of time until his kidney fails. Once the kidney fails he would have to be put on HEMO dialyses which for a child is extremely hard on the body - 2 to 3 times a week this would have to be done.”

Cody’s Doctors at Cedar Sinai Hospital have a new experimental drug that they have already used to treat 12 children in the exact same situation as Cody.  All of children treated with the experimental drug have responded with 100 % rejection reversal thus far. Cops 4 Causes was told by the Misch family, “Anthem Blue Cross denied this treatment for my son.”  Deputy David Misch stated they appealed the denial of treatment with Cody’s Doctors, “but payment for treatment was denied once again.”

Unlike weekly HEMO-dialyses treatments, the experimental treatment would last 6 months and Cody would undergo one treatment a month, for an hour each time. Each treatment is $50,000.00.  However, Cedar Sinai has offered the Misch family a cash option and offered to provide all 6 treatments for $10,000.00.  The Misch family has asked Cops 4 Causes to help them raise the funds needed to provide Cody with a chance at a normal life.

Cops 4 Causes invites all walkers and runners to join them to help Cody Misch. Walkers/Runner can register to walk or run on-line at www.cops4causes.org.
