Jackson police responded to a shooting at a duplex on the 800 block of Old Hickory Boulevard around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. A 43-year-old Jackson woman had suffered a single gunshot wound.

Officers determined that two suspects had entered the apartment through a back window. The woman was shot when she checked on a noise she heard and saw the two intruders.

The woman was transported by ambulance to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. As of today, she remains in the hospital in stable condition.

Both suspects were described as black males, with a slim build and 16 to 20 years-old.

Police investigators learned that the woman did not live at this apartment and was there while the tenant was out of town. Investigators theorize that the intruders broke into the apartment to commit a burglary and didn’t expect anyone to be there.
