LOS ANGELES COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT DECEMBER, 2014 – YEAR END CRIME STATISTICS

119 pages of details showing preliminary reported crime statistics for the unincorporated communities and 42 contract cities policed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department can be found at www.lasd.org.  Visit the “Crime Prevention and Information” page or access them directly at:

http://shq.lasdnews.net/content/uoa/SHB/upload/119_page_PDF_crime_stats_0914.pdf

These include year-to-date (YTD) December 2014 preliminary reported crime statistics compared to 2013 and compared to five years ago (2009).  Reported crimes for each sheriff's station and city include homicides, robberies, burglaries, etc.  To review the statistics, open the file, right click with your computer mouse and use the search engine:

http://shq.lasdnews.net/content/uoa/SHB/upload/119_page_PDF_crime_stats_0914.pdf

As of the end of December 2014, preliminary reported crime data shows that reported overall incidents of violent crimes (Part 1) have decreased 4.95 percent, and property crimes reported (Part I) have decreased by 6.22 percent in Sheriff’s patrol areas countywide, compared to last year at this time.  These numbers combine to show a 6.00 percent decrease in overall Part I crimes.

In comparison, the five year (2014/2009) change in YTD crime rate for December, preliminary crime data shows that overall incidents of violent crimes reported (Part 1) have decreased by 20.70 percent, and property crimes reported (Part 1) have decreased by 5.84 percent in Sheriff’s patrol areas countywide, compared to five years ago.  These numbers combined to show an 8.83 percent decrease in overall Part 1 crimes.

As of the end of December 2014, preliminary reported crime data shows that criminal homicides decreased by 10.53% in Sheriff’s patrol areas (149 YTD in 2014 compared to 164 YTD in 2013), and have decreased by 26.09% compared to five years ago (207 YTD in 2009).

Population source for crime rates per 10,000 population:  2001- 2009 population projections from the Chief Administrative Officer's (CAO) Office of Urban Research and California Department of Finance.  2012 and 2013 Year-To-Date (YTD) population source from the 2010 United States Census Population count.

Note:  The LASD East Los Angeles Station has policed the unincorporated area of East Los Angeles and the city of Commerce for many years.  Beginning July 1, 2010, East Los Angeles Station added the policing of the cities of Maywood and Cudahy.  This should be considered when comparing 2013/2014 crime statistics to 2009.
