Ex-Felon arrested for having a cache of weapons

On January 13, 2015 at approximately 7:50 am the San Gabriel Valley East AB109 Task Force along with West Covina Police officers responded to 100 blk. of N. Lang Ave in the City of West Covina to contact suspect Michael Urac. Mr. Urac is on summary probation for narcotic related offenses with search conditions. The AB109 Task Force was there to conduct a probation/compliance search of his residence.

Once there, the suspect's wife was contacted and indicated that Urac was in the rear detached garage. Contact was subsequently made with Urac, who was found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

During the subsequent search of his residence, a false door was located within the garage. In it, several rifles were located, including an assault rifle with scope and laser, and thousands of live ammunition. Several more rifles were located inside a separate bedroom belonging to the suspect. In total, 26 rifles/shotguns were recovered, including an assault rifle, a loaded .380 caliber handgun that was found in his vehicle, and numerous high capacity magazines.

Suspect Urac was arrested for several charges, which including 11370.1 PC – Possession of a Controlled Substance and a Firearm, 30605 PC- Possession of an Unauthorized Assault Weapon, 25850(c)(1) PC – Felon in Possession of Firearms. He was booked at the West Covina Police Department pending a court appearance.

The San Gabriel Valley East AB109 Task Force is a multi-agency team comprised of officers from ten agencies and includes representatives from the LA County Probation Department and the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office. Their primary responsibility is to conduct compliance checks on those individuals who have been released from prison under AB109 to ensure that they are in compliance with their terms of release. The Task Force is responsible for enforcement in the cities of Azusa, Baldwin Park, Claremont, Covina, Glendora, Irwindale, Pomona, La Verne, West Covina and Whittier.
