Suspect on parole arrested after vehicle pursuit and crash.

On 01-10-2015 at approximately 2230 hours, a Deputy from the Windsor Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop for a vehicle code violation near Highway 101 and Shiloh Road, Windsor Ca.

The subject accelerated up to speeds in excess of 100 MPH, southbound on Hwy 101 and failed to yield to the deputy’s lights and siren. The suspect exited the freeway at Steele Lane, failed to stop at the red light and struck another vehicle. The driver of the victim vehicle and passenger were transported to the hospital where they were treated and released for their injuries. Both vehicles were inoperable and blocked the intersection of Steele Lane and the Hwy 101 off ramp.

Sonoma County Sheriff's Office Deputies, Windsor Police Department, Santa Rosa Police Department, and California Highway Patrol Officers performed a high risk vehicle stop. The subject was uncooperative and refused to follow orders to exit the vehicle. A Less Lethal 40mm projectile was fired to break a window in the vehicle. A Windsor Police Department K9 was deployed. The use of the K9 allowed deputies to safely take the subject into custody without further incident. The subject was taken to the hospital for medical treatment due to his injuries he sustained during the traffic accident and from the K9 deployment.

The suspect was identified as Jason Patrick Smith, 44 years old from Santa Rosa. Smith remains in the hospital at this time with unknown injuries. Smith will be charged with a parole violation, evading arrest with injury, driving under the influence with injury, violation of probation and driving on a Suspended License.
