Incident: Arson/ Explosives Detail roll out regarding possible explosive device

Narrative:

Deputies from Marina Del Rey Station responded to the 5100 block of Marvale Drive, unincorporated Los Angeles, regarding a call of a possible explosive device.  When the deputies arrived at the location they saw what appeared to be a hand grenade with the pin intact near the curb in front of the residence.  The deputies learned that the new homeowners found the grenade while they were moving into the residence. Deputies evacuated the immediate area and notified Sheriff’s Arson/Explosive Detail investigators who responded to the scene.

The AED investigators determined the item was not a real grenade, but a toy replica that did not contain any explosives.  They took charge of the toy for disposal.  The residents then returned to their homes.
