the National Weather Service in st louis has issued a winter
weather advisory for freezing rain and sleet, which is in effect
from 8 AM sunday to 6 AM CST monday.
* timing, freezing rain will spread northward early sunday
morning. some sleet will mix in with the freezing rain at times.
* accumulations, up to one tenth of an inch of ice is expected
across southeastern missouri and parts of west central illinois.
less than one tenth of an inch of ice is expected farther north
and west, including over east central missouri and the greater
st. louis metropolitan area. the recent cold temperatures across
the region are favorable for ice accretion on untreated ground
surfaces as well as elevated surfaces.
* winds, south 5 to 10 mph.
* impacts, the wintry precipitation will result in hazardous
travel conditions, especially on bridges... overpasses, and
untreated roads. parking lots and sidewalks will become
slippery as well.

a winter weather advisory is issued for a variety of winter
weather conditions, such as snow, blowing snow, sleet, or
freezing drizzle and rain. it only takes a small amount of wintry
precipitation to make roads, bridges, sidewalks, and parking
lots icy and dangerous. it is often difficult to tell when ice
begins to form, so do not be caught off guard.
