Grant County Crash Leads to Arrest of Alleged Rapist

Gas City – Last night, a single vehicle crash on I-69 near the 260 mile marker led to the arrest of David Harris Andrews Jr, 27, St. Mary, OH. Andrews was incarcerated in the Grant County Jail on an arrest warrant from Auglaize County (OH) alleging felony charges for strong arm rape, unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, and gross sexual imposition. He also had an active arrest warrant from the St.Mary (OH) Police Department for rape. He is being held without bond pending extradition to Ohio.

Yesterday at approximately 9:30 p.m., Indiana State Police Trooper Weston Shanks responded to a single vehicle crash on southbound I-69 near the 260 mile marker. Upon arriving at the scene, Trooper Shanks found an abounded 2003 Honda minivan, which had crashed into the median cable barrier. Further investigation revealed the van was registered to Andrews who was wanted on criminal arrest warrants from Ohio. Trooper Shanks and officers from the Gas City Police Department searched businesses near the crash scene for Andrews. They allegedly found him hiding behind a gas station near the 259 exit ramp. Andrews was taken into custody without incident.

All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law
