Speed too Fast Causes Crash

White County-This morning at about 6:35 a.m. on I-65 northbound near the 198 mile marker (that is three miles south of the US 24/201 exit), a car allegedly traveling too fast for the road conditions, hit a semi marked Indiana State Police car, sending four people to the hospital.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper A. J. Smith has revealed that a black 2011 Toyota Camry driven by Siang Hnin, 32 from Indianapolis was following a semi and when the semi slowed Hnin was unable to get slowed down. Hnin changed lanes to avoid hitting the rear of the semi when he struck a white 2014 Dodge Charger State Police semi marked car driven by Trooper Tyler Stinson. The Trooper’s car, which had its emergency lights activated, was slowing traffic in the left lane to assist with removal of a vehicle from an earlier crash. The Camry crashed into the rear of the Trooper’s car sending it spinning into the guard rail. The Camry came to rest partially in the roadway. Both vehicles appear to be a total loss.

Trooper Stinson was not injured. Hnin was transported to Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer, with complaint of pain and released. The front seat passenger, Kung Ceu, 48 from Indianapolis, also complaining of pain, was transported to Jasper County Hospital and released. Both back seat passengers, Dar Hlian, 45 and Thluai Zi, 47 both of Indianapolis were transported to Jasper County Hospital with what appears to be non life threatening injuries. A fifth subject in the car was uninjured. The interstate was closed for about four hours for cleanup and investigation of the crash. Hnin was issued a citation for Speed to Fast too Avoid a Crash.

Assisting at the scene were the White County Sheriff’s Department, Monticello Fire and Rescue, Jasper County EMS and Farney’s Wrecker Service.

Suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
