Suspect arrested for robbery after foot chase.
On 1/1/2015 at approximately 10:00 am, deputies responded to the 7-11 store on Middle Rincon Road regarding a theft that had occurred. According to the clerk, the suspect stole a 5 Hour Energy drink, and a DVD. When the clerk confronted the suspect about the items he stole, the suspect pulled out a knife and threatened to stab the clerk. The suspect then ran from the area and the clerk chased the suspect wielding a mop. A fight ensued across the street in the Chevron parking lot. The suspect was knocked to the ground but ultimately got away and fled westbound on Highway 12.
Through follow up investigation and reviewing the video surveillance of both the 7-11 store and the Chevron, deputies were able to identify the suspect as Christopher Lee Curtis, 30 years old from Sebastopol. The victim of the robbery was also able to identify Curtis.
On 1/4/2015 at approximately 3:00 pm, deputies were dispatched to the Mendocino Avenue Safeway when an anonymous person called in to report that Christopher Lee Curtis who was wanted for a robbery was at the Safeway store. When deputies contacted Curtis in front of Safeway, he immediately ran and a foot chased ensued. Curtis ran behind the Safeway store and over a fence with deputies chasing him. The deputies ultimately caught Curtis and he actively fought the deputies. Curtis was eventually taken into custody and transported to the Sonoma County Jail where he was booked for robbery. The deputies and Curtis sustained minor injuries during the arrest. The injuries consisted of minor abrasions.
