Robbery/Vehicle Pursuit Arrests
(Etowah County, Alabama) Two Birmingham men are in custody, and a third is still being sought, after committing several robberies and leading Etowah County sheriff’s deputies on a vehicle pursuit this morning.
Sheriff Todd Entrekin says, “18 year old Jair Kiran Andrade and 19 year old Roddarius Deontae Sharpe, both of Birmingham, are in custody and will be charged appropriately.”
A 9-1-1 call was made at 4:46 a.m. today saying the Hampton Inn, located at 206 Walker Street, Gadsden, was robbed at gun point. The type of weapon used is still under investigation. They also attempted to rob the Comfort Suites, next to the Hampton Inn; however, an attendant was not at the front desk. Earlier, around 4:00 a.m., the trio robbed the MAPCO convenience store in Collinsville, DeKalb County.
A detailed description of the vehicle was given after the robbery in DeKalbe County. The car was found by Deputy Tara Bates at a convenience store off of Interstate-59 after the hotel robbery.
Deputy Bates, along with Deputy Adam Chapman, approached the three suspects inside the car before the trio took off. Deputy Jacob Watkins also joined the vehicle pursuit on Interstate-59 South. It ended near 72nd Street and 43rd Avenue, Birmingham, where the suspects fled on foot. The Chrysler 300 driven by the suspects was stolen from Athens, in Limestone County.
Deputy Bates and a Birmingham police officer quickly apprehended Sharpe. Andrade was located a short time later, by a Birmingham Police Department K-9 unit, hiding under a nearby house.
“I want to commend deputies Tara Bates, Adam Chapman and Jacob Watkins for their response to this incident. They did an outstanding job, I am extremely proud of them,” Sheriff Entrekin said.
He continues, “I also want to say thank you to the following agencies that helped us: Birmingham Police Department and K-9 Unit, Argo Police Department, St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office and the Trussville Police Department.”
Investigators are looking at video footage from the deputies’ body cameras to determine the identity of the third suspect. Surveillance video or footage from the body cameras will not be released at this time since the incident is still under investigation.
Andrade was wanted out of Jefferson County for a failure to appear on attempted murder. Sharpe also has a warrant out of Jefferson County for a failure to appear on receiving stolen property. Both men are currently being detained in the Etowah County Detention Center. Charges, from Etowah County, will be released once warrants are obtained.
