Icy Roadways and Vehicle Crashes Keep Putnamville Troopers Busy
Putnamville—Freezing precipitation, slick roadways, and driver’s failing to appreciate the hazardous conditions, caused Indiana State Police troopers from the Putnamville Post to respond to various calls for service late this afternoon. The vast majority of calls were on Interstate 70 from the 10 mile marker to the 43mm (Vigo, Clay, and Putnam) counties and State Road 63 and Interstate 74 in Vermillion County. The following totals were comprised from 3:23pm until 6:45pm.
Property damage crashes 05
Personal Injury crashes 04
Vehicle slide-offs 08
Trooper Kyle Hall responded to a seven vehicle crash in the westbound lanes of I-70 near the 41mm (Putnam County). During the crash, driver Ronda Marsh, age 42, of Terre Haute, IN. was ejected and later transported to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment of leg and internal injuries. None of the other drivers were injured.
Trooper Mike Wood responded to a multi-vehicle crash in the westbound lanes of I-70 near the 38mm (Putnam County), where 22-year-old Blake Rattray of Fishers, Indiana failed to stop for a Cloverdale Fire Rescue vehicle that was stopped in the passing lane with emergency lights in operation. Rattray’s 2007 Ford Fusion struck the rear of the 2004 Ford F550 rescue vehicle in the rear, causing the Fusion to catch fire. Cloverdale fire units quickly extinguished the blaze, but the Fusion was a total loss. Blake Rattray was reportedly shaken, but not injured. The fire units were assisting with a property damage crash in the median.
Two other personal injury crashes, one on I-70 and one on State Road 63 were only minor injuries.
Troopers assisted the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office with a fatal crash on US 231 just north of US 40. Please contact the PCSO at 765-653-5115 for the information. Troopers also assisted the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Office with a head-on crash on SR 163 near Hazel Bluff road. Two drivers were taken to Union Hospital of Clinton. Please contact the VCSO 765-832-7785 for their press release.
