Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives have learned that Compton Station deputies responded to 101 West Compton Boulevard, (Chevron) City of Compton regarding a man with a gun call.

Upon arrival, they saw a female pointing a gun at a male outside the gas station. Deputies gave the female several commands to drop the gun, however, she did not comply. Fearing for the safety of the victim, that the female suspect would shoot and kill him,  deputies fired at the female suspect, striking her.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

It was later determined that the female had fired a round at the victim prior to the deputies arrival. The suspect’s handgun was recovered at the scene.

Detectives have learned that the suspect and victim have children in common.

The investigation is still on-going.

Whenever an Officer Involved Shooting occurs involving Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies and it results in the wounding of a suspect, multiple independent investigations immediately begin at the scene. These include separate investigations by the Office of the Los Angeles County District Attorney in addition to investigations by Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau. Once concluded, every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Force Review Committee.

INVESTIGATING UNIT: Homicide Bureau (Lieutenant Hernandez)  

COMMAND POST: 301 South Willowbrook Avenue, Compton, (Compton Station)

NARRATIVE:

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide detectives are en route to the 100 block of West Compton Boulevard, to investigate the circumstances surrounding a Deputy Involved Shooting.  One suspect was wounded and transported to a local hospital. The suspect's condition is unknown.

No deputies were injured.

There is no additional information available at this time.
