On Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 2116 hours, West Covina Police responded to the intersection of Azusa Avenue and Rowland Avenue, West Covina, regarding a traffic accident with injuries. Arriving officers were directed to an area west of the intersection where a witness pointed out the driver of a Honda Civic, which was one of the vehicles involved in the collision. Officers detained the driver, later identified as 21 year-old Raymond Simon Alvarado, of San Bernardino, CA. According to witnesses, Alvarado attempted to flee the scene of the collision on foot.
Alvarado had been seen driving the Honda Civic westbound on Rowland Avenue at a high rate of speed, failing to stop for red traffic signals at the intersections of Rowland/Hollenbeck and Rowland/Azusa. Upon driving through the intersection of Rowland/Azusa, Alvarado collided with an Acura Integra which had been turning north to Azusa Avenue from eastbound Rowland on a green signal. The driver and front passenger of the Acura were both injured and were transported to a hospital in Los Angeles. Their current condition is unknown.
S/Alvarado was taken to a local hospital and after receiving a medical clearance, was transported to the West Covina Police Department where he was booked for Felony DUI and Felony Hit and Run. S/Alvarado’s bail is $100,000.00 and he is scheduled to appear at the West Covina Superior Court on Friday, January 2, 2014 at 8:30 am.
