Shots Fired At Officers - Commiskey Man Injured

Jennings County-Earlier today at approximately 9:53 am, members of the Indiana State Police SWAT Team exchanged gunfire with Robert B. Matney, 38, from 7465 South County Road 750 West in Commiskey, (rural Jennings County). Troopers were at his residence assisting the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department in serving an arrest warrant on Robert Matney. The arrest warrant, Three Counts of Intimidation, Felony, was the result of an investigation completed by the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department where Robert Matney had been threatening former employers, local officials and family members with harm. When the arrest warrants were obtained, the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department requested the assistance of the Indiana State Police SWAT Team due to the threats Robert Matney had made. - - When troopers arrived at the above mentioned residence of Robert Matney he was outside of his residence at his mail box. When he saw the troopers, he ran into his home and started firing shots from inside the home at the troopers. Troopers returned fire and during the gunfire exchange Robert Matney was injured. After being injured he came out to the troopers and surrendered. He was transported by EMS from the scene for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. No officers were injured during the exchange of the gun fire. It is unknown at this time if the injuries sustained by Robert Matney were from officers weapons or from Robert Matney’s weapon. Robert Matney’s initial charges are Intimidation, Three Counts, Felony. A report from today’s incident will be forwarded to the Jennings County Prosecutor for additional charges. This investigation is continuing. All further information will be released by the Jennings County Prosecutor’s Office. A photo of the residence where the gunfire was exchanged is attached to this release. No photo of Robert Matney is attached or available due to him being hospitalized instead of incarcerated.
