HCSO urges safe start to 2015

(HOUSTON, TX) - As we get ready to bid farewell to 2014 and welcome 2015, Sheriff Adrian Garcia and the HCSO family wish you a Happy New Year and remind you that our deputies will be out enforcing the law in an effort to reduce alcohol and/or drug-related traffic accidents.

The HCSO's Traffic Enforcement Division, along with other area law enforcement partners, will be conducting DWI enforcement initiatives throughout unincorporated Harris County so use common sense:

- Celebrate but DO NOT drink and drive! Remember, "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over."

If you're looking for a sober ride, visit SoberRides.org for assistance.

- Gunfire is no way to celebrate anything. What goes up must come down. Shooting into the air, without the intention of hurting anyone, inevitably hurts someone anyway. Just don't do it.

- Limited use of fireworks is allowed in the unincoporated areas of Harris County, but fireworks can be dangerous and/or frightening to people and pets. Leave fireworks displays to the professionals.

-If you see something, say something! Call 911 in an emergency; for nonemergency matters, use iWatchHarrisCounty, our free smart phone app, to send tips via texts, e-mails, photos, and videos.

We watch Harris County, and so should you.

A safe and happy new year to you from all of us at the HCSO family!
