WHAT: Arrest for Sexual Assault

WHERE: 1200 Block Morro, San Luis Obispo

WHEN: December 30, 2014

ARRESTED: Manuel Reyes Luevano, DOB: 7-12-66 (Transient)

DEPARTMENT CONTACT: Lieutenant John Bledsoe

On December 29, 2014 a seventeen year old female visiting San Luis Obispo with her family was shopping in the downtown area when she became separated and lost her direction. As she was in the 1200 block of Morro she approached Luevano who was sitting on a bench, and asked him for directions. Luevano escorted the juvenile over to a restroom near the parking structure and forced her inside and locked the door behind them.

While trapped inside the restroom, Luevano sexually assaulted the juvenile victim for several minutes before she was able to push him away and escape out the bathroom door. The victim was able to provide San Luis Obispo Police with a very detailed description of the suspect, his clothing, and the property he had with him at the time of the assault.

On December 30, 2014, in the early morning hours SLOPD officers found Luevano in the area where the assault occurred, based on the description provided by the victim. He was later positively identified by the victim as the suspect who committed the sexual assault. Luevano was placed under arrest by SLOPD Detectives for the following charges:
1. PC 220, Attempted Rape
2. PC 207, Kidnapping
3. PC 236, False Imprisonment
4. PC 243.4 (A), Sexual Battery

SLOPD will also be requesting the additional charge of PC 288 a (2) (A), Forced Oral Copulation with a Minor, and PC 647.6 (a) (1), Annoying or Molesting a child under 18, to be filed with the District Attorney’s Office. Luevano was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail with bail set at $100,000.

The San Luis Obispo Police Department is asking anyone with additional information regarding Manuel Luevano, or anyone who may have seen him in the area of the 1200 block of Morro on December 29, 2014 to contact SLOPD Detective Trevor Shalhoob. Based on the seriousness of this this offense the police department is concerned that Luevano may responsible for similar unreported crimes within the City of San Luis Obispo.
