Assault suspect arrested after trying to run over Deputy, hit and run, DUI and pursuit.

On Sunday December 29, 2014 at about 4:04 AM, a Sonoma County Sheriff's Office Deputy was in the area of Dutton and Hearn Avenues, Santa Rosa. He was looking for a suspect driving a silver Honda Pilot who had committed a violent assault on his roommate which resulted in the victim suffering a serious injury. The victim had already been transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The Deputy was flagged down near Dowd Drive. The person stated he had been run off the road and into a light-pole by a dark SUV. While they were talking, the Deputy heard another car crash then saw a dark SUV turn on to Kenton Court.

The Deputy notified dispatch to have Santa Rosa Police Department respond for first collision, since it was within their jurisdiction. The victim of that hit-and-run waited for Santa Rosa PD.

The Deputy immediately went to Kenton Court and saw a Honda Pilot with no headlights dragging something. The Deputy tried to contact the driver of the Honda Pilot SUV, who was still inside the running car. As the Deputy approached shouting commands, the driver suddenly accelerated toward him trying to run him over. The Deputy yelled, leapt out of the way and the driver smashed into the side of the patrol car and a parked car as he fled.

The Deputy got back into his damaged patrol car and pursued the driver of the Honda west on Hearn Avenue. The driver was going over 80 miles an hour on this dark, foggy, 30 mph posted roadway. He passed over the center line and many times and was driving without headlights. Several other Deputies and Santa Rosa Police Officers came to assist.

As they approached the intersection of Stony Point Road, the driver lost control and spun-out into a dirt lot. He tried to escape and revved the engine, but the field was muddy and his car was stuck. The driver refused to get out of the car so the Deputies forcibly removed him. They had to break the windows since the doors were wedged shut. There was no one else inside the car.

The driver was indeed the suspect from the earlier assault and hit and run. He initially lied about his true name and was later identified as Ericson Reyes Carreon, a 35 year old man from Santa Rosa. The Honda, his girlfriend’s, was towed from the scene. Carreon was treated at the hospital for injuries suffered in the crashes and removal from the car. Deputies suffered minor injuries in the attempt to arrest him.

Carreon was booked into County Jail for violation of Battery with Serious Bodily Injury, Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer, Felony Evading Arrest, Resisting Arrest, and Felony DUI Causing Injury. His bail was set at $50,000 and he is scheduled to appear before a judge on December 31, 2014 at 1:30 PM.

Santa Rosa Police Department conducted the investigation into the Hit and Run and will submit their report to the District Attorney for consideration of filing charges.
