Officer Involved Shooting in Plymouth

Marshall County – The Indiana State Police is investigating a shooting that involved two officers and an armed man tonight in Plymouth.  One of the officers involved in the shooting works for the Plymouth Police Department and the other is a trooper stationed out of the Bremen Post.  The state police are heading the investigation.

Around 6:40 p.m. this evening officers working in Marshall County received information from dispatchers that a subject wanted for questioning in a domestic battery case, had been seen in the area of Hoham Dr. in Plymouth.  Officers were told that the subject was driving a white van and was possibly armed with a gun.

Within minutes of the dispatch, a trooper from the Bremen Post spotted the suspect as he pulled into the K-Mart parking lot off Oak Rd. and US 30 in Plymouth.  The trooper stopped the driver of the white van and waited briefly for a Plymouth officer to assist.

Both officers approached the man as he sat in his van.  After police reached the driver’s side window and spoke with subject briefly, they asked him to get out of the van.  Allegedly the man refused and immediately drew a gun raising it at the officers.  Both officers opened fire hitting the subject multiple times.

No officers were injured in the shooting.  However, the suspect did sustain serious injury as a result of the police gunfire.  He was transported by helicopter to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.  His condition is unknown at this time.  The subjects name will not be released until immediate members of his family are contacted.

State police detectives are currently on scene interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence.

The names of the officers involved in the shooting will be released Wednesday afternoon by the Indiana State Police and by the Plymouth Police Department.

No other information is available at this time.  New information will be released as it becomes available.  This investigation is being headed by the Indiana State Police.  Please do not contact the Plymouth Police Department for comments or facts surrounding the shooting.

*All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
