"UPDATE" Two Vehicle Crash Claims One Life

White County-This evening around 5:29 p.m. on I-65 northbound near the 189 mile marker (that is one mile north of the 188/SR 18 exit), two vehicles collide on the wet pavement killing one of the drivers.

Preliminary investigation by Lafayette State Trooper Jared McQueary has revealed that a black 2014 BMW X1 was NB in the left lane passing a gray 2012 Nissan Acura driven by Jason M. Lininger, 39 from WN who was in the right lane. Information acquired from witnesses and physical evidence has shown that the BMW appeared to have hydroplaned, struck the rear of the Acura which sent both vehicles out of control. The Acura spun into the ditch and the BMW rolled an undetermined number of times landing on its wheels in the ditch. Road conditions at the time of the crash were wet pavement with light rain falling. It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.

None of the four occupants of the Acura were injured. The driver of the BMW was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger was able to climb out of the vehicle and was transported to IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette with what appears to be non life threatening injuries. The BMW appears to be a total loss while the Acura received heavy damage. Seatbelts appeared to be in use by all occupants. The investigation is continuing.

Assisting at the scene were Troopers from the Lafayette Post, Brookston Fire and Rescue, Monticello Fire and EMS and the White County Coroner. Information on the driver and passenger of the BMW will be released when families are notified.

"UPDATE" Both driver and passenger of the BMW have been identified. The driver, Quin J. Kyles, 23 of Chicago was deceased at the scene. The passenger, Johanna V. Cassanova, 47 of Chicago was treated at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette with non life threatening injuries. Families have been notified. No further information will be released.
