Rancho Mirage Police Public Safety Announcement

The Rancho Mirage Police Department would like to address the recent robbery that occurred in the Magnesia Falls Cove area and assist in confirmation and clarification of information to help alleviate unwarranted fears.

On 12/11/14, the Rancho Mirage Police Department responded to a call reference a robbery at the 71300 block of Biskra. It was reported that as the homeowner exited her vehicle inside her garage she was confronted by a subject armed with a handgun. The victim's purse and jewelry were taken and the subject fled in a lifted truck, white in color.

Although crimes in which an offender uses or threatens force upon a victim in Rancho Mirage is rare, we are not immune from such realities. Robbery is a dangerous crime that can threaten any person or business.

To help alleviate citizen’s concerns, The Rancho Mirage Police has increased patrols in the Magnesia Falls Cove as well as other areas, both day and night. The Rancho Mirage Special Enforcement Team is actively investigating any crimes that occur as well as running special patrol operations. The Rancho Mirage Citizens on Patrol is also assisting with increased patrol activities
We would also like to remind citizens of the following safety tips during this Holiday season:

-Be alert and aware.
-Pay full attention to your surroundings.
-If you see a suspicious person/vehicle call the police.
-If you are being followed, travel to a public area and call the police.
-Avoid text messaging and talking on the phone or other distractions while driving.
-Avoid displaying and carrying large sums of money in public. Only carry the credit cards you need.
-Be careful with purses or wallets. Carry a purse close to your body. Do not loop or wrap straps around you as in an attempt to take your purse, you could be injured.
-Keep wallets in an inside pocket.
-Keep your home well lit.
-Know your neighbors and your neighborhood.
-If you are confronted, COOPERATE! Don’t make sudden moves or try to apprehend the criminal yourself. Concentrate on remembering a description and call police immediately.

Finally, The City of Rancho Mirage is one of the safest cities to live in. The crime rate has dropped every year for the past three years, and the FBI’s Part One Crime statistics have dropped 34% from 2004 to 2013. In-addition, the City provides 1.4 deputies per thousand residents, which is considerably higher than the recommended 1 per thousand used by most cities.
