Portage, Porter County The British Petroleum (BP) gas station on the Indiana Toll Road service area/travel plaza was held up, late yesterday evening, with the robbers taking off with cash and cigarettes.
Preliminary investigation by Troopers Chad Stanek and Brandon Dersch revealed that at approximately 11:24p.m., yesterday, Thursday, December 18, 2014, the BP gas station located east bound at 1501 Plaza Avenue (21.7 mile marker this is approximately one mile east of the Ripley, I-80/94 toll exit) in Porter County was robbed by three (3) unknown black males each wearing masks and hooded sweatshirts. This gas station attendant was held up by gunpoint. Cash and cigarettes were taken. The attendant was not injured.
All three males ran out the back gate located on the far south side of the parking lot. This back gate is a parking area for employees who work the service area/travel plaza. The gate is only for pedestrian use. The road from this parking lot goes into a residential area in Portage.
Indiana State Police Toll Road Detective Mike Robinson is asking anyone who may have seen or noticed anything during this time in and around these areas to please call him at 574-206-2941.
All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
