Mechanical Problems Causes Vehicle Rollover

Tippecanoe County-Today at approximately 1:28 p.m. on I-65 northbound at the 182 mile marker (that is four miles north of the 178 exit to SR 43), a vehicle allegedly had mechanical problems causing it to enter the grassy median and roll onto its top.

Preliminary investigation by Indiana State Police Master Trooper Aaron McCormick revealed that a gold 2006 Ford Taurus driven by Sharanda E. Thomas, 36 of Joliet, IL was northbound at the 182 mm when the vehicle had some sort of steering problem. She drove off the right side of the interstate, over corrected and went across the highway into the median and rolled onto its top. Thomas was pinned in the vehicle until rescue personnel arrived and extricated her from the car.

Thomas was transported to IU Arnett Health Hospital with non life threatening injuries. She was cited for driving while suspended. The vehicle was a total loss.

Assisting at the scene was Tippecanoe County EMS and Battle Ground Fire and Rescue.

Suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
