INCIDENT: Stolen vehicle, assault with deadly weapon
LOCATION: 7000 block of Conejo Drive San Bernardino
VICTIM: Mark Balbaneda, Timothy Warne, residents of San Bernardino
SUSPECT: Daniel Martinez, age 41 resident of San Bernardino


SUMMARY: On Thursday, December 11, 2014, at approximately 4:07 P.M., Mark Balbaneda and Timothy Warne were helping their grandmother move her furniture out of her house on to a Blue Ford pickup truck with a small trailer. 41-year-old Daniel Martinez from San Bernardino drove off with the truck without their permission. He drove through a residential area attempting to flee. Both victim’s followed the stolen truck and called 911 requesting help from the police. Deputies from the Central Station SMASH Team along with the assistance of Sheriff’s Aviation 40King were able to locate the stolen truck in a cul-de-sac in the 25000 block of Anson Street approximately 4 blocks from where it was taken.

Martinez crashed the truck through a wrought iron fence in the front yard of a residence and collided with the outer living room wall where the truck was disabled. Both victims attempted to detain Martinez but were unsuccessful when he tried to stab them with a screw driver. Martinez was contacted by deputies and taken into custody. Martinez was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center where he was checked due to his violent behavior. He was booked at the West Valley Detention Center for grand theft auto and assault with a deadly weapon.
